And all kinds of operating problems crop up
train smacking a combine at crossing. Combines are mostly sheet metal and
explode on impact
wet corn in modern harvests is very heavy. One nite the wet corn bin at the
Cameron elevator(just west of Galesburg) began to lean toward the tracks
shutting down all traffic
trains running down the road. A tractor with two or more loaded wagons of
grain. And there are no brakes on those wagons
overloaded trucks of grain. I once took a loaded truck (single rear axle 5
ton truck) over the north wagon bridge in Abingdon, Ill with over 10 tons of
dry corn loaded even with the box all the way and I know the bridge was
groaning. Reason for the B&B to have to fix the old wooden road bridges.
The colors and textures are different and harder to model then just plain greens

I've been thinking about what time of year to set my layout in. Up here in
Ontario we're well past the height of the fall colour.

My questions would be when fall colour would begin in southeast Iowa and when
the leaves would have been likely to fall, and also when the major corn harvest
would be (with its accompanying surge in traffic).

Thanks to any who live where I model.

Duncan Cameron
