During my time with the BN in the 70's, I worked as an operator in
the "dark territory" from Lincoln to Forrest City, MO, on the "extra
board." Every station had A/C, all supplied by the permanent station
agent! Harlan "Scotty" Scott in Firth trained me at the old depot
there writing the "proper" method for train orders. If any of
you "traveled" that line during that time, quite possibly our paths
crossed at Firth, Tecumseh, Table Rock, False Titty, (Whoops...that was
supposed to be Falls City), etc.
I did spend part of one summer working as a "time slime" on a steel
gang on the Wymore division (as well as on the old O'Neill line and in
the Guernsey, WY, area). By that time, the bunk cars were A/C provided
by the company!
