Leo,
I had a large potato company in Burlington, probably one of the larger
packers in the country. They would receive potatoes in bulk from the Red River
Valley. These spuds were unloaded from the RSB cars then washed, graded, sized
and then bagged in 5,10, 20, 50 and 100 lb. bags. The bags were then loaded in
RS cars and shipped out. Out bound cars were BRE-WFE-FGE cars there were also
NP and MNX cars. I liked the meat cars the best. Mechanical cars 50' were
converted into bulk cars also.
FGE converted some reefers for the SOO into bulk cars. I would also receive
onions from the RI in former troop cars that had been converted. These were a
bear to work in.
