I have a few consists and soome notes on CB&Q operations. East of Omaha the
predominate type of non-meat reefer throughout the sixties by far would be the
PFE cars on the Grand Island trains off the UP - one or two a day east of
Lincoln, two or three into Lincoln, particularly later on in the decade. The
meat reefers would be mostly a mix of privately owned or leased ones (to the
packers) along with BREX cars. As the sixties progressed, most of the meat was
converted to trailers, and by 1975 most of the trailers were gone. The meat
was then traveling over the highway.
