Some time ago, I had located the original charter issued by The Dakota
Territory to The Grand Island and Wyoming Central Railroad to build a railroad
into the Black Hills. This railroad was created by the Burlington and Missouri
River Railroad to construct a railroad from Grand Island west to Alliance,
north to Edgemont, SD and continuing into the northeast corner of Wyoming. When
found, I had been at the owner's business, located several hours from home, but
he had the original at his home. I recently contacted him to arrange to
purchase the charter and was informed that the historic building, in which his
business was located, had burned to the ground. I asked him if he still had
the charter at home and he said that he taken the charter to the store and thus
it is lost forever.
