Paul,
Many of your questions have been discussed at length by this group. A check
of the archives should help you. Also it seems your not a member of the BRHS
so please join and you would have the last few mailings, one of which dealt
with interchange volumes. Another recent Zephyr had detailed track plans for
Oregon.Possibly you can get a copy from the company store at the web site.
Rockford Branch
There has been little discussion of the Rockford Branch. For the period of
the 50s and 60s this branch was typical with grain elevators, feed mills and
related AG. type shipments. There was also interchange w/CGW at Holcomb.
What set the Rockford branch apart was all the traffic hauled to and from
Rockford which was a heavy industrial town with an emphasis on metal mfg
especially in the fastener business(nuts, bolts, screws, etc, Joe Behr is a large
scrap operation loading many cars each day. For great details on Rockford
industry get a couple back issues of the Milw. Railroader from the MILw
society.
The Rockford w/f hauled all the Q business to and from Flagg Center. On the
nights the Rockford w/f was off #81 and the P/U would make sidetrips to
Rockford to cover the business. There was also a motor car across the branch
until
the late 40 or early 50s.
