Paul,
To the best of my knowledge the unit trains were the end.
I never say there in Galesburg or another firm listing.
When Machens were no longer used by BN/CB&Q areas run it was
also need for re-building at a BN decision. It was decided to
scrap instead.
By the way when they were brand new the wanted two from Galesburg
to Cicero to do a photo at the time photo. It was sent the day
with it on the head end and IHB on read end. Dumb more. Since IHB
set car out using the head end it was set out at IHB. Photo not around
and not made happened. First IHB had to leave cars on CB&Q so did not
get pulled out. That got done at IHB end. They did find another
Ealesbound and got it moving in to Cicero and photo. Was not normally
used at Galesburg but went Savanna at that power but it still got a
good photo and was sent out as system.

Subject: [CBQ] Another Burlington Hopper Question
All,
I would like to have some of the 'silver side' hoppers on my late 1960's era
layout. A few years back I recall seeing some available, but in N-scale. At
the time I ASSumed that soon they would probably be offering them in HO...but
apparently I was mistaken or possibly missed it...did I?
Let's say they're not available commercially at this time. Could I just
silver spray paint some appropriate hoppers and letter them for Burlington? If
so, is there a model available that is dead on? If not, what would be the
closest substitute I could use? 100 percent accuracy isn't mandatory, but I'd
like to get as close as possible using what is available on the market nowadays.
Also, is there a decal set available for these hoppers that anyone knows of?
Finally, were these cars kept together in early unit train service, or were
they mixed with other hoppers of the time as needed?
Thanks for any help!
