Interesting statement from
http://whitehalltownshiplibrary.org/townhistory.html
1961 Last passenger train through White Hall. CB&Q fare to Winchester
was .34 cents.
>From 1951 thru 1953 I worked as a relief agent/operator on the
Beardstown Division. Traffic between Concord to East St. Louis was:
Daily passenger trains No. 47 and No. 48 which also provided Railway
Express and a baggage car for shipping cream cans.
Daily thru freight trains No. 61 and No. 62
A steam local providing LCL freight and switching services.
Only industries I remember are:
Every town had an elevator so farm products where shipped.
Chapin had the Mid-West Order Buyers, a stockyard that shipped mostly
hogs.
Alsey had a brick factory and I think they or another plant made
bathroom fixtures.
When I visited relatives in Chapin in 1975, the Q tracks were gone and
the Wabash was still there but was changed to Norfolk&Southern.
