Ben,
I spoke to the owners of Wright Track at the Naperville RPM show. They said
that there is a grille on one of the sides that would make it incorrect for Q.
I compared the photo in BB# 12 with the model shot on the web and it looks dead
on for #5000. I'm not sure of the other side of the model matching, that may be
where the fault is. The carbody is a one piece resin casting which is good news
for veteran and novice resin kit builders. I still have greif over some of my
kit's car sides ltrying to line them up perfectly. There are some really nice
etched grills in these kits too. They did say that they are considering a Q
version early next year. They also stated that the Q whalebelly cement car
outsold the Seabord car. So we will see it produced.
For the covered hopper fans out there. I bought a Tangent Scale Models Pullman
Standard PS-2CD 4740cc kit just to have a fun build. I believe there are 120
parts in this kit composed of styrene and metal. The grabs are prebent brass
and the running boards were stainless steel etchings. Retail of $20. Much less
than the price of a Proto 2000 kit plus the etchings and grabs. It practically
builds itself.
My basic tool kit includes, single edge razors, Rail Nippers for de-spruing,
Walgreens black cosmetic nailboards for sanding the nibs off, Testors liquid
cement and a #2 Sable brush and ACC. The parts locate with precision and with
the interchangeable A & B ends you can build the variants with the trainline on
the "wrong" side. My kit came with the Morton pattern running boards, the Q had
the slotted Apex type. These are undecorated so you will have to find the
Microscale set to fit and cut the plaque for the herald.
Tangent plans to do a CB&Q version in the next batch. Thier site is
http://www.tangentscalemodels.com/. I give these guys high praise on thier new
kit and look forward to buying a few more even though it's way out of my era.
They also sell some prototypically correct painted and assembled models as well
as repaint decals to model the cars in later life.
Your best CB&Q modeling Pal in the whole world,
Rob Manley

Subject: [CBQ] mechanical reefer
Hi,
Would like to share this one with you: in Keystone Modeler #50 (Sept. 07)
mention is made of a FGE/WFE mechanical reefer model made (in resin) by
WrightTrack Railroad Models (see http://www.wrighttrack.com/fge.htm). As far as
I can see from the only side shown this model could also be correct for BREX
5000-5059. Would be happy to read comments from the experts amongst you!
(Btw I am not in any way commercially involved in this product!)
Ben de Vries, Holland
