I am taking a guess here but when the RTA started there were different
agencies. West Suburban Mass Transit was the agency BN operated under, WSMT
owned
the equipment and that equipment was leased back to BN for operation. Which
is why even today BNSF Suburban trains are operated with BNSF crews.
Now I can't remember the C&NW what agency they were a part of in the system.
I do know that the Milwaukee suburban service agency was Nortran I believe.
But of all the Chicago RTA trains, the BN was the only one that retained the
BN name on the equipment.
Others may know more..... Of course today all the equipment on the old Q
carries Metra, WSMT, and BNSF markings.
