Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on a question I have
regarding a photograph in Joseph W. Shines book 'GREAT NORTHERN color
pictorial Vol.1'. On page 58, there is a wonderful picture by Ed
Kanak, which shows a overall shot of GN's Union Yard, with GN and CB&Q
power mingling about. My question is , in the 60's, I know it was
common to see sets of "Q" switchers transfer cars between yards, but
was it common for CB&Q "road power" to go directly Union Yard to drop
or pick up road freights? Was it just for high priority freights, or
just anything? I also noticed a empty unit ore train in the
background, would it have been the 'Q' power that would have brought
it back to the GN, and if so, did they return to the Q's Dayton's
Bluff yard as a caboose hop or would they have picked up a returning
eastbound freight? and lastly, was it common for the GN to do the same
in reverse with the "Q"?

Thanks for any insite,

Rob B.
