Steve,

There was a train with approximately 40 hoppers cars used for training
(service interruption) purposes. This was in 1985, I attended engineer training
at the Rosedale training facility. Upon completion you could either go to St.
Joseph or the Illinois Institute of Technology and go through the AAR program.
I choose to go to Chicago. Hope this helps.

Now that you mention it, the training part sounds familiar. I think sometime
I'll go down and check those signals sometime....they are dark, but still there.

Before Johnson CC was used for training I think they used that line for a ways.
Also the signal you saw may have been an approach signal for an interlocker.

An absolute signal is denoted by the lack of a number plate or an A plate and
the only one I ever saw on the old CB&Q was in Streator. Never got any
roadtrips around St. Joe. Just up on the Ottumwa Div Creston to P Jct and west
to Lincoln and back via Omaha

Pete and Steve,

Thanks for the info. I kind of remember a green signal eastward nearly all the
time, but this was in the 80's and my memory might be a little fuzzy.

OK Pete

You got me off my duff. Yes Brookfield to St. Joe was CTC(I looked on the track
charts((will have a few at KC if you want one))) But the Kansas City Cut Off
(Short cut from Brookfield to KC)took all the traffic away. I Do not have the
date ctc was installed.

The CTC Galesburg to Quincy was poor man's CTC. Only one end of the sidings
were signaled the other end being a spring switch. So in one direction you
would be lined into the siding and spring out the other end after making the
meet. The absolute signal was outside the siding on the spring end to control
the traffic. I think Amtk paid to redo all the signals for full both end of
siding CTC after the Hannibal and Cicero offices were consolidated in Galesburg
after 1983. I will try and find the ad from GRS which featured the line.

Tom

Seems to me that it was, but I wouldn't be able to say for sure.?? Just a few
days ago there were a series of posts on the list regarding signals all over
the system.? I think it was by STeve Holding, but I'm not sure of that
either.?? It would have been in July, so you could probably get back in the
archives and find out.

Pete,

Was the Q line out to Brookfield, MO from St. Joe signaled? It seems

like I remember a signal behind the Purina Mills.

Thanks for any info,

Tom in St. Joe, MO
