Recently I've been interested in purchasing a "railroad" pocket watch. I have
a book on watches that describes general specifications on railroad approved
watches. The book gives a couple of lists of approved watches for the Canadian
Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.
The general specifications listed for a railroad pocket watch are: 19 jewels or
more, lever-setting, 16 size, American, open face, winding at "12",
double-roller escapement, adjusted to 5 positions. . .
Anyway, I've got a book titled "Burlington Lines Rules of the Operating
Department - Effective December 1st, 1929" (I guess the GCOR of the day). The
first rule under "Train Rules" describes standard time and that watches must be
examined and approved by the designated inspector. However, no specifications
are listed.
Does anyone have a list of specifications for approved watches on the
Burlington? Any time period would be good.
