The photos Dave is looking at are of 127D taken in 1955 and 128D taken
in 1960. The same 'micro-text' shows in many photos in books and on
the internet.
As Dave points out, the lettering is too small to read but is large
enough to be seen to exist, and I see it in every photo that is clear
enough to see. It's in all my later F-2 photos as well.
It does not appear in any of the builder's photos I have access to.
It looks to be about 5 or 6 times the length of the 1" road number, so
"C&S" or "FW&D" would not be long enough.
I'm working on paint and lettering information for a brass builder and
would like to models that are available to us to reflect the best
information available.
These are the specific engines I'm doing:
122-A -B and -D, 124-D, 126-A -B (or maybe C) and -D, 127-A, 153, and
157-C.
All help will be appreciated.
