Guys as info.,
The Main tracks were numbered from North to South. Whether you were on the
east end, west of Aurora towards Galesburg or out the C&I the northern most
main was #1 and you counted up going toward the south. The mains were not
designated directionally as you could be routed any direction on any
track,even
before CTC. But it was a bit more difficult before CTC. Yes generally the bulk
of traffic was routed a given direction on each track but it was the
exception that got people killed as they weren't expecting a train on that
track,at
that time,going that direction.
And yes there was double track on the C&I in one particular section.
