My mother told me this one and we all know your mother wouldn't lie.
The Alley Job was a long winded job and a certain crew member would develop
a powerful thirst as the job headed back to Eola. So... being the junior man
in the crew with only 35 or so years seniority he would be on the head end to
throw switches and as they worked their way thru the Aurora shops area, the
Hill yard and finally onto the Aurora lead and turned for Eola he had an
arrangement worked out. He would drop off under High Street bridge and head
for the
watering hole a couple blocks up the street on foot. The fireman would
handle any switches at Eola and bring his car to the oasis and he'd have a
cold
one waiting for the tallowpot when he showed up.
