SOME of the reasons are that the line through Gillette was built on
behalf of the CBQ when it was on its way west prior to being controlled
by the Hill lines. The line through Casper was built after acquiring
control of the CS and in large part to form a more direct route between
the Pacific Northwest and Texas. In conjunction with the line through
Casper the GN built a line from Shelby MT to Mossmain MT, thus enabling
traffic off the GN to use either CBQ line.
