One story(answer) leads to another. One fine fall day we're out of Cicero
(HY), check your history as to why Cicero is designated as HY, on one of those
ever present section x/185's that are 95 MTY's and one load headed back to the
Northwest for loads. Rounding the curve under the 'J ' @ Eola I look back
from the cab and detect smoke pouring from a journal box maybe 15-20 behind the
"motors". Now who would anticipate a hot box only 26 miles out of a major
terminal ? But here we are. So I look over at Art and advise we've got a hot
box
back about 20 or so. He looks at me with that veteran look that says this kid
doesn't know what he's looking at. So he calls Eola Yard on the radio and asks
the yard office to look 'em over as we pass. Sure enough they call back and
say yup you've got a hot one. So Art pours the air to them and we get stopped
w/the cut east of McClure road and the West Eola signal bridge. I make the cut
and we pull out over Farnsworth and shove back into the West yard. At the new
trk switch I flag Art down and hold out my arms widespread to say which trk?
He hangs out the cab window as far as he can with arms extended parallel to the
ground and palms up. He moves them up and down alternating them seperately.
What trk. was he telling me to set this FGE wooden refeer with a hot box out
on ?
