Hi Duncan,
In response to your question about landscaping around buildings on your layout,
I have found that placing the building without securing it is the first step.
This allows you to see what it is you want to do around it, both near and a bit
more distant. It also allows you to put "soil,'bushes, weeds" etc close around
it to fill in gaps between the base of the building and the part of the layout
it sits on. The next step is to wet the landscaping with a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of
70% rubbing alcohol and water to allow the the fixative which follows to seep
in the scenery. The fixative is a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of matte medium and water.
When that dries everything will be secured. I use a large "eyedropper" to do
this, rather than a sprayer, to avoid spraying on the building. The nice thing
about this is that if you want to remove the building later, you simply moisten
the scenery base around it a bit with some of that rubbing alcohol, which
loosens the bond and allows you to gently remove your valuable scratchbuilt or
craft kit building. Regards, Dick
