If a 1949 or 1967 or '78/'79 or '79/'80 blizzard hit today Metra probably
would do OK as there's been a major improvement in switch heaters since those
days. The Achilles heal is always the switches that pack with snow and/or ice
and
can't be thrown. On the other hand dont recall any switch heaters at 14th st
last week when I went past. I'll look Weds on the next trip. The other weak
spot is the signals of course everything is microwave and fiberoptics and they
never go out . Do they ?!
Does seem we're overdue doesn't it ? It got so bad during the winter '78/'79
that we had section men riding the trains to dig out the switches. Never saw
that before or since.
