Hi, Stan,
I am very interested in the Concord, IL area. My great-grandfather (Vincent I.
Ball) was a station agent there from 1893 until he retired in 1941. I am a
novice modeler (but have an excellent tutor in my MMR hubby.) I am working on a
model of the old Concord depot (demolished in the 1950's), and the water tower
that was there. Did you know the water tower on the old TV series "Petticoat
Junction" was modeled after the Concord water tower? Smiley Burnett used to
spend time in Concord, and loved the water tower, so he influencd the producers
to model it for their town water tower. That model still exists in California,
and I have lots of photos of it. I also have a photo of the old depot if you'd
like a copies.
Several years ago on a trip to Concord, I met a lady who wrote a 150th
anniversary history book of the town, and I believe it has a little bit of info
about the train operations. I would be happy to give you copies of that if
you'd like them. I can scan and email, or mail hardcopies to you. Just let me
know. Email sandij2000@yahoo.com.
Also, Mr. Dietsch, who also posted to this, is a delightful and knowledgeable
source of information in this area.
Sandi Paulus
