My information was a bit inaccurate...I said that the train was gone when I
passed near the scene of the affair....Later information, along with pictures,
from another member of the Lincoln Railfans Club verified that the train had
pulled down to J St..( just east of Hobson Yard, near the passenger depot)
and was held there until nearly 3:00pm while "the cops and railroad people
looked things over".
It's still not clear what happened...Initially the report was that the train
hit the pickup, but it turned out that the guy ran his truck into (maybe
under) the baggage car. Radio reports said that the crossing gates were
broken,
but they won't say yet that he drove through or around the gates.
This is not a dangerous crossing. The visibility is good and the sun was
shining although very cold...
Reading the accounts in the paper today I found that the guy lived just
three houses up the street from me, but I don't know him.
