Without benfit of my old BN "Spins" industry pamphlets or research into a
city directory and relying only on memory Aurora Refining was at Rathbone St.
and
the elevation off a lead that came off the Sheep Yard lead. It processed
scrap Aluminum and pressed into into bales that were shipped out. Again if
memory
isn't failing me it went out in 50' boxes.
Either Aurora Refining or a competitor operated another similar operation on
the original "Aurora Branch railroad", the West Chicago line at Indian Trail
in Aurora. This was in the late 60's. Again scrap Aluminum was piled in
mountains, processed and shipped out in large bales. I remember mill gons being
used
at this site. It was east of Indian Trail on the Geneva Construction Spur trk.
The site is now a restaraunt and believe me based on the former sites and
smells of this operation I don't ever recommend eating there.
