Although not too sure of where the Aurora Refining Co is located, I've always
thought a switching layout of Aurora would be a very interesting small layout
to build.
Middle Ave. comes to mind, at one time there was a Meat Packing Plant-became
the Aurora News Agency then after ANA shut down operations, that building
became River Street Press. Of course the Beacon News, Strathmore Printing,
along
with other businesses that got cars from the Q. Back in the day I remember
switchers coming across Downer Place running in between the Old Second National
Bank and Strathmore. I got my hair cut near where Middle Ave. crossed Downer.
There was also a freight station at the end of Middle Ave. also the C&NW branch
came down on the west side of the Fox River. The C&NW perhaps at one time
served the Cotton Mills that burned on Easter Sunday 1964 (?).
Besides the Aurora Shops, this city has a rich railroad history.
