I just bought the new book by John F Strauss Jr, titled "Burlington Route
Passenger Trains Volume One" 208 pages with tons of B&W and color photos.

I really like the book, paid $50 at the Train Shop in San Jose CA (has a
list price of $60).

There are tons of photos that I have never seen before. The majority of the
photos come from Otto Perry collection.

There is a wealth of detailed written information about train consists,
types of cars used in the consists with names and numbers and even examples
of a specific date lising the engine number and all the cars in that
particular consist.

And it covers ALL of the Q trains including fast mail trains, not just the
big name trains. Most of the information lists consists of the 1930's up to
the Zephyr era.

The only thing that I am disappointed in is the quality of some (NOT ALL) of
the photos. It appears to me that the author/publisher attempted to enhance
many of the photos and in doing so resulted in some distortion. It almost
appears that who ever did the digital enhansments used an low cost software
program and then attempted to enhance only a portion of the photo, resulting
in poor quality.

Having said that I STILL am glad I purchased the book and am really
impressed with the overall contents. I would recommend this book to anyone
who is interested in Burlington passenger consists.

I look forward to seeing his next volume on the Q, not certain what it will
cover, but I am sure it too will be added to my library. I just hope that he
makes improvements when enhancing any photos.
