Dale-

I received my PCM CB&Q 9960 ABC set (with sound) of F3's the last
Monday. I ordered them from First Hobby, Inc.

Keeping in mind that opinions are relative, here is mine. I
don't consider myself serious enough to order and install detail
kits before I consider a model worthy of running, however I do
appreciate a good looking model with decent detailing. The F3's meet
this standard in my eyes. I was especially impressed with the fine
mesh on the sides of the units.

My layout is still in the collecting-ideas-before-planning stages,
so running the lashup was done on a DC oval. I'm not crazy about the
little plug between the A and B units. It's tough to plug in on the
inside of the diaphragm. Once in and coupled, it looks good, but now
I know I'll never model anything smaller than HO- my fingers and
nerves can't take it! I thought the lashup ran awfully slow, but I
chalked that up to the basic DC pack and track I hooked it up to and
the fact that they are new. I didn't bother hooking up the BLI CZ
cars that I got earlier this year. I hope the PCM F3's have the
power to pull a typical CZ consist at a reasonable speed, or I will
be sorely disappointed a few years from now when they are supposed
to be running the rails.

-Tom

P.S.- I hope none of you modelers take offense to my comment about
detailing. I have seen some incredible detail and weathering work in
this hobby, and can appreciate the hard work and artistry, but it is
not a level I will try to attain, at least not on a $400+ set of
loco's! I know it will bug some visitors to my layout, but I will
have impossibly clean trains.
