No, the Athearn model is not prototypically correct. If you don't mind
them being quads that look very similar to a triple, you can still use
them. I removed them from my layout and replaced them with the following:
The Stewart/Accurail triples in both Chinese Red and Mineral Red are
correct (some custom painted black cars were also produced but are
hard to find).
For a quad hopper the Walthers 100t quad hopper in the black scheme is
very accurate. It was first released as a single unit kit, then a
6-pack, then a 6-pack sublettered "For Beet Service Only". These were
not used in beet service, so remove the sublettering and load 'em with
coal! (You can still find the 6-pack beet service cars on eBay, etc.)
Finally, Walthers just released a single unit kit with a new number.
For twin hoppers in CB&Q and C&S the Accurail models are good. I think
there is a composite hopper that also is accurate, but I can't
remember who produces them.
