Some like the H&ST.JO were bought, others like the B&MR were created to 
build in new territory so that if there was any trouble with the new 
road (ie:bankruptcy) it would not drive the parent road into bankruptcy.
I read in Overton's book that Perkins liked the arrangement but forget 
the reason. When Hill bought the Q he wanted the merger of all 
subsidiary lines.
