Haven't seen it in a while but in the early 70's, several roads (IC, N&W and 
probably some other midwest grain belt carriers) used to haul grain (corn and 
soybeans) in cleaned coal hoppers covered with a piece of black plastic and/or 
tarps during the peak harvest season when box cars were running in short supply 
and covered hoppers were still relatively few for the needs.
