Charlie,
You are saying that the DZ photo is taken looking east so that the
train is westbound, is that correct? I don't recall whether the
westbound approach to the EJ&E bridge is a long straight away. If you
are correct, then somewhere between this point and west of Aurora, the
communication lines switch from north to south. In the Chicago - Aurora
area, I think the communication lines were on the north side of the
track, so you could be correct and certainly, the wide ballast area to
the left in the photo, could have been the remnants of the old fourth
main between DG and Aurora.
