Bob, Mike, and Others:

The definition for a division and a subdivision are provided in the Operating
Department
Rule Book. The following is taken from the May 1, 1951 issue:

A Division is that portion of a railroad assigned to the supervision of a
superintendent.

A Subdivision is a portion of a division designated by timetable.

A branch line is not defined. Main track, single track, two or more tracks, and
current of
traffic are.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Ed DeRouin

example, is a sub-division the track between 2 yards or between a yard and an
end point
or is it the trackage between two points that are100 miles apart or are
sub-divisions and
divisions whatever a particular railroad says they are?
