Hi Stan:
I'm pretty sure you are looking at the lead to the Sunspot mine. You might
Google "Sunspot Mine".
Quick search:
http://216.125.108.2/Links/Astoria%20History%20Pages/AreaCoalMining/FultonCountyMinePostCards.html

I think the mine quit in the 80's and the shovel was cut up and put into
gondolas in the mid 90's.
There may be some info in the back of the Bulletin with the Southern
Illinois
Coalfields about it.
Plug for future bulletin. "The rest of the coal mines in Illinois"

Subject: Vermont IL wye
All,
While viewing an online copy of the 1947 USGS topographical map of
Vermont IL, I noticed what appears to be a second wye, due south of
the Rushville branch wye. The tail track of the wye extends east. On
the map, it is printed in purple. The map legend is not available.
Does anyone know the purpose of the caboose? Can anyone tell me what
the purple is supposed to represent?
Links to the images are listed below. Thanks for your time.
Best regards,
Stan Maddox
