    Rupert,
    For the most part the X was removed/painted over on the BRE-WFE-FGE cars. 
From what I remember the meat rails had not been removed from the MNX cars. The 
NP were also good to work in and they had three hinged doors.
   
  The mechanical cars were restenciled to BNFE after the merger.

I take it that the cars retained their BREX/WFEX etc. stencils?

Did the MNX's still have their meat rails?
