Reread my post - I said prices were moderating in Iowa - not that they
were moderate (verb vs adjective). They are still high but going
down, not up, as they always do after Labor Day w/e. How far & how
soon depends of course on how quickly things return to normal in the
Gulf but reports today were good re: refinerys coming back on line,
drill platforns, more oil and gasoline stocks being released, panic
buying ending, etc.
Glad to see/hear some fellows are carpooling. Also we will continue
to pair off registrants looking for someone to share a room - just let
us know.
The Q was always big on controling fuel costs with well documented
studies in Railway Age in terms of coal usage AND then when diesels
became the norm, experiments @ Q's lab @ the Aurora Shops on
alternative sources for petroleum/diesel fuel. PArt of that tradition
of innovation and frugalness. I.E. making every nickel count BUT not
being afraid of risking $$$ if there was a potentially good return!
