The General being referred to in GA is the General of the Andrews Raid. This is the original locomotive. This is the locomotive that Andrews and his raiders stole from its train. The raiders were pursued by the Conductor and a group of Confederates in a variety of vehicles and were last in the Texas running backwards. For years the General was on display in Chattanooga. It was brought out for the centennial of the raid in 1964. It became the subject of a tug of war between GA & TN. Since the State of GA owns the Western & Atlantic right of way (leased to CSX) GA claimed ownership of the General. It has been on display in Kennesaw for several decades. It is too bad that the Museum hasn't taken better care of its prize. This museum has a large number of old Southern Railway records that belong to the Southern Railway Association.
