Group,
A couple of us are contemplating the conversion of Overland Models
heavy USRA mikados in O scale to Q O-4s. One question has arisen. Did
the Q designate the O-4s as class "O-4b" after conversion to oil in the
early 1930's or simply O-4 since 15 locomotives in the class were
converted. The photos that I have found on Jan Kohl's site and the Otto
Perry material on the Denver Public Library site seem to show O-4 on
the side of the cab, no "b". The oil burning O-5s and S-4s, of course,
carried the "b" designation after conversion.
