>From what I can tell, the last unit repainted Red was as late as
1970!! 1969 seems to be the last year I have full photo evidence to
confirm repaints into Red
Here is what I show:
In Holck's Burlington Route Color Pictorial Volume 2 Page 49 there is
a picture attributed to Lou Schmitz of CB&Q GP7 267 in Blackbird
scheme dated 3/8/70. Per Zephyr #32 page 14 the list of repaints says
that a picture exists of 267 in Red dated 8/71. I do not have access
to the picture in Red, so this may be incorrect.
I also show GP7 222 as in Black 11/68 (latest Zephyr #49, photo in the
Albia center spread). This unit is CONFIRMED in red with the wide
white frame stripe on 11/70, probably Red in 8/69.
GP7 219 was black in 4/69, Red with wide white frame stripe by 12/69,
and 217 and 218 appear to have been repainted around tat same time in
1969 as well. 216 was Black in 2/69 (see the CastleGraphics website)
but red with wide white frame stripe by 12/69.
So from what I can tell, 267 may have been the last repaint from black
to red in 1969, with 216 a close runner up.
Anyone have any further info?
