I was very saddened to read that Dave Beck had passed away. I had the
privilege of meeting Dave and Violet on several occasions, and he was always so
interesting to talk to. At the Denver and Aurora Meets, he made a special
point of saying hallo, knowing that my wife and I were visiting from overseas.
(They later visited New Zealand, so I was able to return the courtesy) His
models in the competitions were always something special to look at and study -
it was no surprise to read in the Zephyr that he had won a prize.
Last year when I was in Chicago, he took me out for breakfast and then took me
to his home for a tour of his layout. It was a special honour to see the
master in his den and to operate the models. A cherished memory.
