Just about everyone when referring to "Mars lights" in relation to
the Burlington, means the oscillating, figure-8 pattern lights atop
the nose of passenger units; a Q trademark. However as a Q fan
recently pointed out to me, in order that we do not confuse
newcomers or even ourselves, it would be better to refer to them, as
the Q did, as "oscillating Mars headlights". I say this because the
Mars company also mfg. traditional headlights which Q used on some E
units in addition to their usual supplier. In other words a
Burlington E could have 2 Mars lights; a conventional AND an
oscillating. This may seem like a minor point but I can see where
it could lead to mistakes being made. Just a thought!
