I have been pondering the use of the white/red mars lights found on
most all of the CB&Q locos and I was wondering if the purpose of the
red/white mars light was to serve as a warning whenever a train went
into emergency on double track. An opposing train would see this and
take action to prevent collision with derailed equipment. Or was
this light used for a warning when crossing highway crossings at
grade?
Confused to the purpose,
Kevin
