There is a full page advertisement in the January 2005 issue of Progressive
Railroading trade magazine by Federated Railways, Inc. (division of Federated
Financial Corp. of America) offering each of the 50 ex-Metra gallery cars for
lease "as low as $3,500 per month." A website is listed <
www.federatedrailways.com > and a toll free telephone number is given <
888-883-2608 >.
This seems to be a very attractive price considering new replacement cost and
lead time. I would think these stainless steel gallery cars will help to
jump-start a number of pending commuter railroad operations across the US. Who
says 50-year-old passenger cars can't have a new life hauling yuppies outside
of
Chicago?
