The new Walthers cars have coke-bottle-bottom windows that not only
look terrible, they make the fact that the interior is pretty nice
truly a moot subject (unless you also enjoy the difficulties of
taking the roof off to look inside). The trucks are truly bad, and
the car sits too high, apparently because of the lighting contacts
(also quite visible).
The Branchline cars are perhaps some of the finest kit models ever
put on the market, but although not difficult, they do take time to
put together. The AC arrangements and underbody vary and are
specifically designed to be generally correct for each car
plan/railroad lessee. The completed model can be truly of "brass
quality".
The Walthers car can be used right out of the box, but it will take
some effort to bring it into the same scale model league as the BL,
IMHO.
AMB is as we speak developing aftermarket laser-cut windows and other
add-ons that can either correct or improve either or both of the
above models. Some are already on the market.
