Rupert,
This ties right in with the covered gon thread. When BN
needed additional scale test cars they used covered gons
as there was no way to put any trash inside them and they
could be maintained at a stable weight.

As Rob stated, there is a full article in Bulletin #27 on track scales and
test cars.The CB&Q had 4 such cars (204738-41) built between 1916 and 1948,
with the last three - all built by Southwark as opposed to AC&F - surviving
through to BN.
