Last weekend I was out fanning the former Q line to Galesburg and paused to
photograph a train stopped at E 9th St in La Salle County. This is a point
about midway between Earlville and Meriden. I noticed that the crossing gate
signal box ID's the location as "Moyers Curve", which was very interesting
since the tracks runs straight as a shot thru the area. The neighboring
highway (Rt34) does take a tight turn south here, so I suspect that it's the
landmark noted on the signal box. I've got two questions:
1) Was this spot known as Moyers Curve back in Q days?
2) Does anyone know why it's called Moyers Curve? (BTW, I already know
that there was a farmer named Moyers in the area back in the 1870's)
Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.
Thank you kindly,
Mike
