Regarding roofwalks etc. this is what I found on internet. These all apply to
cars in interchange only.
1940; All wood underframes outlawed.
1940; Arch bar trucks as of 7/1/40.
1945; Wood walkways outlawed on new cars.
1955; Allied Full-Cushion trucks banned due to derailments.
1966; Roof walks allowed to be removed by ICC.1974 set as target date for
removal of all
roof walks and high hand brakes. Does not apply to tank cars and
covered hoppers.
1966; New freight cars ordered after 4/66 and /or delivered after 10/66 were
required to be built without roof walks and with low hand brakes.
1978; Foot board removal from locomotives was required by FRA as of 9/78.
1982; walkways banned on boxcars/reefers in interchange.
There was more regarding trucks, plain bearing and roller bearings. To much to
