SAM HOUSTON ZEPHYR

The following "card" contains exhaustive and accurate information on the Sam
Houston Zephyr consist as it appeared in January 1945 and ran with few
additions and subtractions into the mid-fifties.
Eagle Imports - now The Eagle Collection of Overland Models - did this train
in HO brass 18 months ago. It includes the five cars and the E5 - 9909 -
Silver Bullet.
Kato - did several of the cars in plastic - N Scale. The most difficult to
match and find are the Diner-Lounge-Observation "Silver Hours" and the Baggage
car "Silver Light." Again, Kato did a fine job on both - and the three
coaches.

Baggage
Budd Job # 96107 Ordered September, 1939 – Delivered March, 1940
Originally assigned to silver streak zephyr April, 1940. Assigned to sam
houston zephyr January 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's. At
merger, became BN 900 thence AMTRAK 1000.
silver crown – CB&Q 4712
52 Seat – Divided Chair Car
Budd Job # 96115 Ordered February, 1940 – Delivered June, 1940
Originally assigned to the AkSarBen zephyr in 1940. The "Jim Crow" partition
and extra bathroom were installed in CB&Q shops prior to being
assigned to
sam houston zephyr January 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's.
At merger, became BN 5290. Not on AMTRAK Roster. Presently at the Atchison
Railroad Museum – Atchison, Kansas
silver chariot – CB&Q 4700
52 Seat Chair Car
Budd Job # 945 Ordered October, 1937 – Delivered February, 1938
Entered CB&Q Pool Service in 1938. Assigned to sam houston zephyr January,
1945. Re-entered pool service in mid-1960's. At merger became BN 5280. Not
on AMTRAK Roster.
silver trail – CB&Q 4701
52 Seat Chair Car
Budd Job # 945 Ordered October, 1937 – Delivered February, 1938
Entered CB&Q Pool Service in 1938. Assigned to sam houston zephyr January,
1945. Re-entered pool service in mid-1960's. At merger became BN 5281. Not
on
AMTRAK Roster.
