Steve: The yard at Savanna (no "h"), Ill., among other things would hold
cars for interchange from the Galesburg line going to the Twin Cities, and vice
versa. Lots of grain cars usually in evidence.
Savannah is in Georgia; Savanna is in Illinois. Roselle is on the
Metra Milwaukee West line; Rochelle about 75 miles west of Chicago is where the
C&
NW crosses the CB&Q (in modern speak, UP crosses BNSF). It always had a Del
Monte canning plant; asparagus was one of the local crops. Oregon is the
terminus for the Mt. Morris branch (Kable Printing Co.) and newsprint went in;
finished magazines came out in mail storage box cars.
