Hat's off to Bob Rees, Rich Grotowski, the Depot Museum volunteers
and various BRHS mbrs for a super meet! The Oregon Coliseum was full
of tables of Q models and RRiana for sale, the 3 clinics were great &
although I had to lv early for our daughter's last Prom night, I'm
sure the dinner & programs were top quality considering the providers.
It was a privilege to meet Rupert Gamlen, New Zealand's #1 Q fan as
well as other BRHS mbrs, some of which I had heretofore only 'met'
via this Yahoo group. (and yes, there were some interesting Q models
on display in various scales). The depot was super with homemade
goodies provided by the local volunteers and the obligatory visit to
the nearby Black Hawk statue was a must to evoke the spirit of the
Q's overnight Chi-Twin Cities train.
Given conversations with Galesburg meet organizers the Sept 17-19
annual meet there will be another "winner" so circle that w/e on your
calendars.
Also w/e of the 2005 Annual Meet in Dubuque has been narrowed down
to the 3rd or 4th w/e - anyone aware of any other major RR events
that would conflict with either w/e?
See you @ Galesburg! Gerald
PS - the Zephyr should be in many mbr's hands now - a wide variety of
info whether you model, collect, railfan or are LE, LW, Steam, diesel
or any other Q interest. We need more authors though for both the
Zephyr & the Bulletin - whether a paragraph of 'news', photo to be
added to a work in progress (see list in that new Zephyr) or an in-
depth article of any length or something in-between, put it on paper,
send to Box 456 and let staff work with you to get more Burlington
info in print & into everyone else's hands! Danke shoen....
And my apologies to anyone @ Oregon I did not get to visit with long
enough (Brad, Bob, Rob, Tom, etc etc) - between my table of Q items,
my clinic, etc - there were NOT enough hours in the day! BRHS or any
entity for that matter only survives if 'x' number of members show an
interest in each other's welfare; i.e. give of your time, talent,
dues, etc to share information and comaraderie. The Burlington
remains as the 1st name of the 1 of the surviving Big 4 RR's with all
its principle lines intact largely because the "we're the best and
will work to prove it" attitude exceeded that of all its friendly
competitors. (thank goodness!). We owe nothing less to our efforts
to collect, preserve & disseminate Burlington info, large & small.
