Flyers going out this w/e to BRHS mbrs. Tables for swap meet are $10
and non-mbrs are welcome to buy same. Shapes up to be a big meet at
a "first time" location. Be sure to see the nearby statue of Black
Hawk, namesake of the Q's overnight train between Chicago & St. PAul
and featured on Q brochures and menus. Some great bridges, large and
small in the area & only an hour's drive west to Thomsen, site of 1
of the 2 remaining CB&N depots (restored on line). NW Illinois is
beautiful in the spring and lots of shops in & around the area for
non-railfan family mbrs (big antique ctr in old store in nearby
Savanna). Saturday, April 17 - be there or be square as the old
saying goes!
And for those of you seeking Q Timetables and the like as well as
looking at exquisite models, bring your cameras and your wallets!
I am personally enthused about getting to meet Rupert Gamlen - ALL
the way from New Zealand. Despite being the literal 1/2 world away.
he keeps up some of the files @ the BRHS web site & as you know per
this list, is compiling a thorough listing of all Burlington freight
cars from 1898 to 1970 (and that is a monumental task!). See ya!
