In the earlier days of Chicago commuter service the CB&Q used "power
cars" to generate electric power for the Bi-level commuter cars.
Until about the time the BN merger occured these were part of every
commuter tain. They came in different versions but typically included
a baggage compartment - although some had only coach space. They
weren't as comfortable as the bilevels in my opinion.
